Task 2 - Good Design: Creemy

Creemy

A stylish modern tea/coffee set which makes you look at it and want to touch it. Functional as well as aesthetic.

Silver - Industrial Design Excellence Awards 2008
Home Living
Client: Gaia & Gino (Turkey)
Design: Karim Rashid (U.S.)

Gaia & Gino, the company who commissioned the set, describes as follows: "The six-piece Creemy Tea & Coffee set re-imagines the traditional tea service with a futuristic silhouette, contrasting straight tubular handles with soft curves. The combination of delicate details with strong forms makes Creemy a visually striking collection that also creates a unique tactile experience. But, in addition to having exceptional aesthetic qualities, the set is also very functional and ergonomic."

Visual Design Analysis:

Line: Smooth, rounded and flowing between body and handles/spouts

Balance: All of the pieces reflect of each other with continuity in design

Form:
  • Teapot, milk cup, sugar cup are bulbous and vase like
  • Cups are an inverted 'top of the vase' shape
  • Simple yet elegant
Colour: Ceramic white

Contrast: Looks light yet solid and stable

Texture: Glazed ceramic, soft and smooth

Proportion:
  • The handles and spouts are the main focal area with straight smooth lines
  • The main body of the products don't detract from the handles and spouts
